Description

“Follow the Yellow Brick Road” as Teachers Theresa VanWetten and Anna Philipsen join together to equip students ages 7-9 to be Show Ready! This production preparation class will give students excellent foundational training in order to prepare them for the CYT audition process as well production rehearsals. Our goal this term is to teach auditioning skills that will build the students’ confidence and preparedness. Along with this, lessons on the casting process and rehearsal etiquette will be explored. Students will audition and be cast in a mini musical with a portion of script and a mash-up of songs taken from The Wizard of Oz. This class is perfect for 8 and 9 year olds that are newer to the audition/rehearsal process as well as 7 year olds that have taken a minimum of 1 year of Our Gang classes and are planning to audition in the near future.
* Please note that 7 year olds can participate in this class but are not eligible to audition for our spring productions*
Prerequisite: Students who are 7 years old need a minimum of 1 full year of Our Gang experience and are planning to audition in the near future.

Teacher:

Anna Philipsen

Anna grew up in Portland, Oregon and has been a musician from a young age. At 5 she began playing the violin and continues to play to this day. Throughout high school she performed in several choirs and orchestras, including the pit orchestras for all the musicals at her high school. Anna also took drama classes and was a member of the International Thespian Society. In college she continued to pursue music classes, took vocal lessons, performed improv violin with worship teams, and taught music lessons. Since then, she's continued to perform at events, with worship bands, and in community orchestras. In addition to a love for music, Anna has always had a passion for design. She received a BA in Art & Education from George Fox University. Over the years she has used her gifts in design for developing events, marketing, styling weddings, interior design, and most recently at CYT. Anna lives with her husband Josiah and their three boys, Landon, Dash, and Clay. All three boys are homeschooled and involved at CYT. Anna is continually thankful for how the program has blessed their family and how she can use her passion for design, music, and educating kids at CYT!
