Description

Dive deep into the inner workings of backstage in this grand "Around the Stage World Tour". You will discover how to create lighting, sound, and projections for a production. Other areas to be explored this term will include set building with safety, specialty makeup design, and handbill graphic design. This class will feature various guest instructors who will come in for 1-2 weeks each and share their expertise in each specialized area of stage craft. All students in this class will be challenged, whether they have a vast backstage knowledge or are new to behind the scenes. Everyone is welcome to learn what goes into making a show work.

I have spent nearly 15 years as a theater parent and volunteer, 5 of them at CYT, and have been directing the backstage crew here for about a year. I've raised one daughter and am currently raising my younger daughter in children’s and high school theater. Theater has been a great teacher for them as they developed so many important life skills, including learning how to work in a collaborative and creative environment. I hope this class will capture their imagination as students observe, analyze and create some theater magic for themselves.
